Recently Warner revealed their DC movie plans, we were treat to information about dates and casting leading up to 2019. This week Marvel have shown their own hand, also releasing serious information about their plans up to May 2019. We have title and plot details for phrase 3 as well as confirmation that solo movies will be released that were only rumoured to be happening at all.
First off we have the title and plot details of Captain America 3, since it was revealed last week that Iron Man would feature heavily in Captain America 3 it was rumoured to be the start of the Civil War storyline from the comics. This as well as a raft of further Marvel Cinematic Universe information was confirmed yesterday at a an event in Los Angeles. The title of the first avenger’s third outing is to be billed as Captain America 3: Civil War. It is unclear as to whether or not this will start and finish the Civil War storyline or just begin a chain of events that will effect the series as a whole. I question how they can drag out the story across Phase 3’s movies as there are bigger things coming in the Marvel Universe such as the Infinity War in which the Avengers will have to team up to defeat Thanos who is in control of the omnipotent Infinity Gauntlet. One has to ask how Marvel Studios can stretch out the Civil War if in just a few films after its end the heroes will have to be at a place where they can work together again. Nevertheless Captain America 3 is planned for May 2016.
In 2016 also we get the first appearance of the Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange. Earlier this week we learnt that the title role in this more supernatural orientated Marvel Studios outing is to be filled by Benedict Cumberbatch, star of Sherlock and The Imitation Game. This is a clever choice for the role, although he doesn’t look as similar to the character as the actor that was originally believed to play Strange, Ethan Hawke he is definitely still a good choice for the character.
We are also getting solo movies for Captain Marvel and Black Panther. The Wakandan warrior, Black Panther has been cast as Chadwick Boseman. Boseman will appear as Black Panther in Captain America 3, at a Marvel event this week the casting choice was revealed when Downey Jr and Evans who were announcing details about Cap’ 3 were joined on the stage by Boseman. 2017 will usher in the release of Black Panther’s first solo movie. Captain Marvel will hit screens the following year, becoming Marvel Studios’ first superhero film to feature a female lead. The actress to portray Captain Marvel is still unknown. Inhumans is set for release on November 2 of that same year.
In the summer of 2018 we see the first instalment in the two movie Infinity War saga. Infinity War part 1 comes before the release of Inhumans and Captain Marvel which also come out in 2018. The second Infinity War movie will be released the following year.
If all of that wasn’t enough Thor 3 will be released in July 2017 under the title: Thor: Ragnarok. If any of you don’t know, in Norse mythology Ragnarok means “the end of all things”, this means that in his third solo outing Thor will have to contend with the fall of Asgard and subsequently the entire universe. Thor 3 will follow the sequel to the incredibly well received Guardians of The Galaxy.
