There is still some time to go before the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice in 2016, and yet we already have images of some of the cast in-costume. Shots of Affleck as “sad Batman” standing next to the Batmobile as well as Henry Cavill as Superman and Gal Gadot of Wonder Woman came months ago. Except for the odd hint at pot details in interviews and such things went quiet on the Batman v Superman front for a while. During this time we all knew that Jason Mamoa was cast in the role of Aquaman, many have been eagerly awaiting the next set picture or character image, it was in the early hours of this morning that director Zach Snyder brought us more details for the upcoming DC superhero team-up. Satisfying the frenzied fans…for now. The image Snyder’s Twitter account brought us was of course Jason Mamoa in-costume as Aquaman.

Unite The Seven

He accompanied the image with the awesome caption “Unite The Seven” and the proclamation that “There is only one king”. In the character design Snyder has clearly taken inspiration from tribal and possibly Samoan warriors. The costume design is very close to that of Mamoa’s previous roles of Khal Drogo in Game Of Thrones and Conan The Barbarian. While still keeping certain features from the comics that make the character what it is, such as the scale armour on the arms and of course the iconic trident. The costume really fits in with the concept of the King Of Atlantis in a franchise with a gritty, dark tone. Anyone who expected or wanted the version of Aquaman in these films to look like the image below is an idiot:

classic Aquaman

Snyder hasn’t used this classic Aquaman look because let’s be honest it would look ridiculous amongst the darker characters he is going for. He has instead taken inspiration from some of the more subtle interpretations such as the incarnations from the DC New 52 and Injustice: Gods Among Us.
