You are probably aware that next season of Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix will feature The Punisher. Even better news, he will be portrayed by Jon Bernthal who played Shane in The Walking Dead. He also starred in Fury directed by David Ayer. He seems like an excellent choice to play Frank Castle, you may say an obvious one. He suits the character so well, that when it was announced that he would fill the role it seemed like a sure thing that it would work. More related news is appearing, this time it is that Daredevil season 2 is being unofficially referred to as ‘Daredevil vs. Punisher’.
This makes a lot of sense, both in a story sense and in a business sense. First of all, it figures that Daredevil and The Punisher would come to blows given that Punisher kills people and Daredevil is morally against it. It is true that Punisher kills the bad guys but he is certainly at the very morally dark side of the character scale. You can imagine a scenario in which Punisher kills someone and Daredevil sees it, vowing to take him down.
Secondly, I can’t think of anyone that wouldn’t want to watch Bernthal’s The Punisher square off against Charlie Cox’s Daredevil. The idea of Daredevil fighting Punisher in a live action TV show for the first time is every Marvel fan’s dream to begin with, even better when they are played by these two.
Should the second season of Daredevil be as fantastic as the first with the added bonus of this brilliant storyline fans will be more than happy.
