The teaser trailer for Jon Favreau’s live action Jungle Book movie is a visual spectacle in itself. The animals look absolutely incredible as they fight and chase Mowgli in the habitat they are best suited to. A particularly standout looks to be the enormous Orangutan. This trailer provides an interesting glimpse at how the film may turn out, I say this because in places the animals look to be doing things they would do in real life and others they are acting in a more human way. For example the moment where the tiger and panther clash in the tree tops contrasts greatly with the instance in which the apes are carrying Mowgli up the cliff face. However having said that in the moments where, true to the movies roots, the animal characters are doing things that they wouldn’t necessarily do in real life it never looks ridiculous. The creatures aren’t anthropomorphised so much that it looks cartoonish, for instance when Kaa comes down from the trees, the snake’s lips are only moving very slightly.
I have to say as well as a visual spectacle Jungle Book looks to be a treat for fans of movies with great soundtracks too. The use of sound and music in this trailer is absolutely genius. The way the drums beat when the shot changes and the tiger’s paws come down is an excellent way to build tension. Furthermore the music that plays at the end of the trailer when the title appears on the screen is gorgeous and possibly a sneak peek at what the main theme will sound like. On top of this we have a stellar cast of actors with iconic voices. It is a dream for any fan of movies in general to be getting a movie in which Bill Murray is a voice actor. Combine this with a line-up of other iconic and charismatic voices in: Christoper Walken, Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba and Ben Kingsley and you have the recipe for some serious fan service. The fantastic rising star, Lupita Nyong’o will also be joining the cast. If all this wasn’t fan service enough we even got a look at this movie’s version of The Bare Necessities as we see Bill Murray’s Baloo floating downstream with Neel Sethi’s Mowgli on his belly. We can hear the bear whistling that iconic tune.
The live action Jungle Book movie looks to be a fast-paced adventure with a brilliant soundtrack, amazing voice acting and stunning visuals captured by the amazing Jon Favreau. I have a feeling this is going to be a real treat for everyone.
