People, it is official, Sigourney Weaver will appear in Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot. Why do I know this? I’ll tell you how, the man himself just confirmed it on Twitter. According to Paul Feig it was supposed to be a surprise but given that the news was about to leak he decided to beat the entertainment news sources to the punch. These were the director’s exact words:
“Gang, trying to keep surprises but this is about to leak, so I’ll tell you myself: the awesome Sigourney Weaver is going to be in our movie!”
The news that the star of the original movies would be appearing in the upcoming reboot comes soon after it was confirmed that Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts would also have cameo appearances in the movie. You can read my report on that information here. For those of you that don’t know, the returning cast members won’t actually be reprising their roles from the first two movies. They are playing new brand new characters among Feig’s new all-female team.
As it stands the only members of the core cast from the original movies that are not currently on board with the reboot are Rick Moranis and Harold Ramis who sadly passed away last year. It is very sad indeed that Harold Ramis who played Egon Spengler will not be able to join Murray and the gang in Ghostbusters next year. However, with any luck Rick Moranis will give in to peer pressure and will come out of retirement to join his former team mates, we want as many of the previous cast as we can.
