This trailer begins with a firm connection to the Harry Potter franchise by featuring the “Lumos Maxima” spell. I love that they used a spell that Harry Potter fans know very well, it adds an extra amount of depth to the universe when there are branches between different stories. It is particularly interesting because it means the spells we saw Harry, Ron and Hermione using have been around for hundreds of years. As we know, this film is a prequel so it is an interesting idea that people like Scamander contributed to the legacy of these spells long before the trio used them on their adventures.

I am also fascinated by the idea that the audience will get to see another portion of the wizarding world during a different time period to what we are used to. Although this trailer tries to give the impression of darkness, from the tone of the story and Redmayne’s performance it would seem this movie will have a much lighter tone to the later Potter’ films. A wizard chasing around dangerous beasts is a good concept for an adventure movie. When I heard about the adaptation of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them I was initially sceptical, however, having watched this trailer I am quite looking forward to this prequel. Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them will release in November 2016 starring Eddie Redmayne in the lead role.
