The interviews coming from the recent Television Critics Association have revealed a lot of information. Before I get into what has been revealed about the Gambit solo movie, I should mention that another interview from this press event revealed information on the future of Stranger Things. You can read that report here.

In a sit-down interview with /Film Fox-Marvel don, Simon Kinberg said that production on Gambit is taking so long because they are getting it just right. Kinberg had this to say in reference to the production delay: “I think the truth is when you have these movies that need a very special and unique tone, it takes a little while to find that tone.”

Kinberg continued: “The character has such a specific voice in the comic in the same way that Deadpool has a specific voice in the comic, that we want to make sure that we capture that voice on the page. Really it’s just about getting a screenplay that is worthy of that character and I think we’re really close right now.”

A Gambit movie could be really interesting and fresh. He is a superhero but very unlike the kind of character we have at the moment. His combat style does not involve a lot of punching or firing of weapons. Instead he uses his energy powers to weaponize objects such as a deck of cards which he throws as projectiles. He also fights with a staff.

The character of Gambit, who has a very unique back story, is a key member of the X-Men in the comics. The solo movie is the first appearance of the new iteration of Gambit. The character appeared previously in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. However, that version was played by Taylor Kitsch. This time around Channing Tatum steps into the role, also executive producing on the project.
