Friday Night Lights is something that I have always been aware of but never got round to watching. The great thing about Netflix is that it introduces people to shows and movies that they would not usually have seen. I knew that people held Friday Night Lights in high acclaim but I probably wouldn’t have gone out of my way to see it if it hadn’t appeared on UK Netflix.

Friday_Night_Light_castAs for my reaction to the show, I have found myself getting absorbed into the town and the lives of the characters that live there. There is someone on the sizeable cast of characters for everyone to relate to. It can be very cliche at times but I find that the writing really hits home sometimes. It often hits on a lot of truth, if you watch Friday Night Lights and fail to feel any emotion at any point there is something wrong.

The thing that was particularly striking was that by the end of the first episode I really cared. I cared about the characters and I was invested in the outcome of the  football game. You will love this show if you like drama and you will certainly love it if you are a sports fan.

FNL Riggins and SaracenThe focus of the show is of course American football but also, like all good sports stories, it is incredibly motivational. The ‘wind sprints’ scene, among others, is enough to make anyone want to lift a car. There is a reason Friday Night Lights is so popular with athletes.

By the time you have seen a few episodes of this programme you will feel like a qualified American football pundit. The fact that everyone in the town thinks they are an expert is so accurate. I know what it is like to grow up in a small town where sport is one of the most important things. It is true that everyone try to give advice.

Finally, I would recommend that everyone give Friday Night Lights a try. There is something for everyone, you should especially watch it if you love sports or participate in sport yourself. It is motivating in the way only sports dramas can be.
