Per Dana White, via Anthony Lima, the rumoured bout between Robbie Lawler and Donald Cerrone is set. ‘Cowboy’ has teased a huge match in the works for UFC 205 but has stopped just shy of confirming who the big opponent was.

For some time talk was that it was former welterweight champion, ‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler. This was an appealing prospect and the fan base have eagerly awaited further details. Well now we know that the fight has been signed for the first UFC event in New York.

The historical event was always going to be an exciting card, this early addition is certainly that. This is a fight that has MMA fans salivating.

Donald Cerrone is quickly becoming one of the biggest stars in the sport. His popularity is increasing ten fold after every stunning knockout he performs at 170 pounds.

His fights have been at lightweight in the past despite his struggle to cut down to 155. Since moving up in weight, he has been on an absolute tear. One only needs to look at his knockout over Rick Story to see what he is capable of at welterweight.
Robbie Lawler has delivered two of the best battles in welterweight history. His title defence against Carlos Condit and the second bout against Rory MacDonald were both instant classics. Lawler repeatedly earns his Fight of the Night bonus.

The two of them together could make for another Fight of the Year candidate just like Lawler/MacDonald 2.
