DC’s most macabre character is set to see a solo TV adaptation. James Wan, modern horror poster boy and director of The Conjuring, will be on board as a producer.

The Swamp Thing series is steeped in mythos and some fascinating backstory. People love TV shows that have a lot of detailed history, world building and lore. This could make an adaptation of the Swamp Thing comics series very successful by word of mouth. Particularly if James Wan brings his supernatural horror styling.

The official synopsis of the Swamp Thing TV series can be read below:

“When CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-born virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland- only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets both horrifying and wondrous and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all”.

James Wan is a key figure in the horror genre currently. Wan is behind a lot of the ‘by the numbers’ horror flicks that are churned out consistently. Cinema goers eat-up the cannon fodder horror he is known for like the Insidious films. I do not mean to be dismissive, some of them are great but there is definitely a formula. Wan could bring the same knack to this new project.

Combine this with other aspects that are on trend and you have lightning in a bottle. Small towns as the setting for a grand sci-fi/horror adventure is a big crowd pleaser. This strikes a nostalgic cord with people right now. The Swamp Thing TV adaptation could be an exciting project.
