Anthony Joshua has faced all comers in his brief but decorated pro career. He stopped many top heavyweights on his rise. He has faced a gut check in Wladimir Klitschko and recently out pointed Joseph Parker on the way to unified champion status.

The one belt he has not yet collected, is the WBC heavyweight championship. The WBC belt is currently held by ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Deontay Wilder. The American heavyweight champion recently had his own opportunity to prove that he is more than an inflated record when he faced Luis Ortiz.

Reminiscent of Joshua’s bout with Klitschko, Wilder faced his biggest test in Ortiz and had to overcome early adversity to take the comeback win.

Joshua and Wilder are two sides of the same coin. Both are considered the other’s kryptonite and both have potential to be the chosen. Only one man can unify the division though, so these two are on a collision course. Here are the latest whispers about a future title unification bout.

Joshua’s recent posts on social media suggest a bout with Wilder is on the horizon. Last week he posted a picture on Instagram of his title haul so far. The caption reads: ‘W.e’re B.elt C.ollecting’. Take a look at the three letters that are isolated by the full stops. He also posted a story on Instagram showing that he was watching the Wilder/Ortiz bout. The caption read ‘studying’. He did say that Wilder was next in an interview with IFL TV at Bellew/Haye 2. It seemed to be a long way off though until recent indications that it is coming.

The signs of progress are interesting given that Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn recently announced a 100 million pound extension to Joshua’s contract. Eddie Hearn recently spoke to IFL TV and gave the impression that the Wilder talks were in embryonic stages. However, with everything that has been going on, the negotiations may be further along behind the scenes.
