Brett Okamoto broke the news today that Yair Rodriguez has been reinstated by the UFC and has verbally agreed to a bout against Zabit Magomedsharipov.
This is a big U-turn on a recent situation that caused controversy in the MMA world. Rodriguez turned down two separate bouts including one against Zabit and was subsequently released from his contract.
Yair Rodriguez is an extremely talented young star with one of the most entertaining fighting styles right now. This lead to public outcry when he was abruptly let go from the UFC for simply rejecting to fight offers. Dana White showed no sympathy for Rodriguez warning the roster to consider Yair as an example.
However, Okamoto has revealed that Yair’s release has been rolled back. Not only that, he had verbally agreed to face Zabit Magomedsharipov at UFC 228.
Zabit shot to fame at UFC 223 after a thrilling clash with Kyle Bochniak. Zabit’s stylish, crowd pleasing style lead to a need amongst fans to see him face big names.
Rodriguez seemed to turn down that fight previously on account of Zabit being a dangerous fight BUT not yet a big name. With that said, Rodriguez has since verbally agreed to the bout and fans can now get excited for an instant classic.
