News has broken today that Dillian Whyte will face Joseph Parker at the O2 Arena. The key heavyweight clash goes down on July 28th. This is another moving part in the heavyweight division.

Dillian Whyte has been knocking on the door of a title shot for some time now. ‘The Bodysnatcher’ is number one contender for Deontay Wilder’s WBC heavyweight championship.

Matchroom’s promoter, Eddie Hearn also named Whyte as a potential opponent for Povetkin in an IBF title eliminator. However, such is the politics of boxing, plans seem to have changed.

Matchroom Boxing have instead booked Joseph Parker vs Dillian Whyte in a no less important bout. Parker is a big name, who lost his WBO championship to Anthony Joshua in his last outing. A win over the former champion would further justify Whyte’s claim to a title shot.

Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua are of course in talks for a unification bout. That fight, should it come to fruition, would be the biggest heavyweight bout in years and the winner walks away with all the marbles.

Joshua has a history with Whyte and an old score to settle. Whyte beat Joshua in the amateurs but Anthony avenged the loss in the pro leagues. Both men have said they want the trilogy fight.

Wilder and Whyte have traded verbal blows and call-outs. If Whyte can beat Parker in impressive fashion, he awaits the unified champion after Joshua vs Wilder. Exciting times for heavyweight boxing.
