Brett Okamoto revealed last night that a verbal agreement is in place between Alexander Gustaffson and Volkan Oezdemir for a potential bout.

According to ESPN’s Okamoto, the agreed bout would be at UFC 227. That card comes to us on August 4th from the Staples Center.

Oezdemir was previously booked in a fight before this agreement. Oezdemir was supposed to face veteran, ‘Shogun’ the on the July 22nd card.

Since news of this change came out, Ariel Helwani has added that Rua has gotten a replacement opponent. Anthony Smith has stepped in to face the UFC legend on the July card. Smith is on the ascent of the 205 pound ladder, coming off a KO of Rashad Evans.

Perhaps the change is an attempt to beef up the 227 card. The UFC are trying to deliver the best cards in their pay per view offerings. The less important contendership bouts are saved for their Fight Night cards.

UFC 227 features two title fights in Garbrandt vs Dillashaw 2 and Cejudo vs Johnson 2. With a big 205 pound clash now on the slate, the event is really coming together.
