As previously reported, Tyson Fury is set to fight on the Frampton/Jackson undercard. It was unknown who the former undisputed champion would face though, until today.
Per an announcement from MTK Global, Tyson Fury will face Francesco Pianeta on the August card. Pianeta is a former European champion and two-time world title challenger.
The Italian shares an opponent with Fury, one of those title shots was against heavyweight legend, Wladimir Klitschko. Fury out-pointed Klitschko on the way to his 2015 title haul.
Pianeta is a far more worthy opponent than Fury’s previous, with a record of 35 wins and 4 loses. Fury’s return last month was much maligned and labelled a ‘circus’ due to the obvious mismatch.
Although Pianeta is not one of the monsters that reside in the world title picture, he is a respectable opponent.
It is odd that the fandom were surprised by Fury taking an easy win in the first outing back after a long layoff. However, with a more challenging opponent ahead of him, Fury is easing his way back in.
We will see if Tyson Fury is still competetive in the division come August 18th at Windsor Park.
