Manny Pacquiao is timeless. At the age of 39, he has secured the WBA welterweight championship. Pacquiao stopped Lucas Matthysse last night in the seventh round at the Axiata Arena.
The Filipino boxer is a veteran of the game. There is a running joke amongst the boxing fandom that he has retired and come back hundreds of times.
However, on Saturday night he proved that he is still competetive at welterweight. Pacquiao made a dominant win over the younger man look effortless.
This win marks a return to champion status for the veteran who lost his WBO belt to Jeff Horn last year. Horn went on to lose the title to Terence Crawford. This sets up a potential meeting between Crawford and Pacquiao in the future.
Vasyl Lomachenko is also reported to be targeting a bout with ‘Pac Man’. With an undefeated champion and the pound-for-pound king potentially in his future, there are still big fights for Manny at welterweights.
