Rumours have been swirling for the past couple of days that Kell Brook had withdrawn from his bout against Brandon Cook. Brook was set to face Cook on July 28th at the O2 Arena.

Matchroom Boxing’s, Eddie Hearn announced today that the rumours were true. The huge card for British boxing has lost a popular homegrown star. The successful boxing promoter confirmed that the whispers were true in an interview with IFL TV.

However, Hearn had some good news to counteract the bad. Matchroom are close to adding Joe Joyce to the card in a heavyweight clash against Nick Webb.

Joyce is an Olympic medalist and promising prospect. After only joining the pro leagues in 2017, the heavyweight has already captured the commonwealth title.

It was also confirmed that Chris Eubank Jr. had been approached as rumoured. Eubank considered but ultimately chose to wait. The British middleweight is booked in a ten round warm-up fight on the day of the WBSS final. He is also a reserve for the final between George Groves and Callum Smith.

Hearn noted that the bout between Joyce and Webb is not yet signed but he expects it to be soon. July 28th is set to be a monumental night for British boxing.
