Tom Loeffler revealed Gennady Golovkin’s plan after the Canelo rematch in a recent interview with IFL TV.
Loeffler, Golovkin’s promoter, told Kugan Cassius that ‘GGG’ will move up to super middleweight after his next bout.
It is widely believed that the victor of the Canelo vs Golovkin rivalry will be the pound-for-pound best in the world, now that Andre Ward is retired.
However, Golovkin and K2 Promotions are not satisfied with a win over Canelo in their anticapted rematch.
The plan is for Golovkin to move up and face James DeGale at 168 pounds. The Kazakhstani fighter has moved up and down in weight but there are still big fights for him at super middleweight.
A win over any of the technicians at 168 pounds such as DeGale; George Groves or Callum Smith would further cement his claim to modern great status.
Golovkin and Canelo first have a score to settle on September 15th. It is a great time to be a boxing fan.
