Brett Okamoto is reporting that the UFC are working on Luke Rockhold vs Chris Weidman 2. The promotion are looking at UFC 230 in Madison Square Garden for the middleweight bout.

Luke Rockhold ended Chris Weidman’s two year middleweight title reign in 2015. However, there were still questions left unresolved after the bout so the UFC tried to make the rematch for UFC 199 that following year.

That bout fell through when Weidman was forced to pull out with a back injury. Michael Bisping stepped in on short notice and shocked Rockhold to win the title. This changed the landscape of the division and Weidman has not received his due title shot since.

It seemed Weidman would get his shot on this card but the UFC instead chose Kelvin Gastelum to face champion, Robert Whittaker. The Long Island native would be justified in feeling short changed as he submitted Gastelum in his last fight and was a dominant champion.

This is a big fight nonetheless. Weidman will get the opportunity to avenge his loss to Rockhold and the winner will likely go on to face the victor of Whittaker vs Gastelum.

The UFC always try to stack their November card. It is only fitting as the event emenates from MSG, the combat sports hallowed ground. The autumn and winter MMA cards are really taking shape.
