One of those most beautiful things about Star Wars is that nobody ever truly dies. The ‘sequel trilogy’ is no exception to that rule. Disney released casting details for Star Wars Episode IX on Friday.
The next instalment of the iconic space western features multiple characters that are no longer with us, in real life in one case. Carrie Fisher will appear, despite passing away during production of the last instalment.
Episode IX will feature footage of Leia that hit the cutting room floor when filming the seventh instalment. Disney execs want to give the princess a fitting swan song.
Acclaimed British actor, Richard E. Grant has joined the cast with Naomi Ackie from ‘Lady Macbeth’. Their roles are unknown at this time.
Anthony Daniels will of course return as C-3PO, he will be joined by the new blood introduced in ‘The Force Awakens’ and ‘The Last Jedi’.
Billy Dee Williams is the latest alum to re-enter the fold, he will play Lando Calrissian once again. Williams has not donned the cape since ‘Return of the Jedi’ in 1983.
Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker is set to appear despite passing over at the conclusion of the last movie. This is really no surprise as Star Wars characters are liable to return in ghostly form.
J.J Abrams is on board to co-write and direct Star Wars Episode IX. The release is scheduled for December 20th 2019.
