A historic night at the Olimpiyskiy Sports Center in Russia opened up a myriad of opportunities for Oleksandr Usyk.

With a masterclass performance in the final of the World Boxing Super Series, Usyk became the latest recipient of The Muhammad Ali Trophy. What’s more, he became the first man to unify all four belts in the cruiserweight division.

Despite being one of the best fighters in the world, pound-for-pound, Usyk was relatively unknown prior to the July 21st unification. That has certainly changed and the biggest opponent of his career is on the horizon in Tony Bellew.

A fight with ‘The Bomber’ in the UK is almost certain, it will likely take place in winter. The Liverpudlian has named the title fight with Usyk as his retirement bow. With that said, what lies ahead for Usyk, beyond the Bellew bout?

This past weekend, The Telegraph reported that Eddie Hearn wants to sign Usyk to a multi-fight deal. Under the banner of Matchroom Boxing, Eddie Hearn has become the sport’s premier promoter. Some of the biggest names in boxing are in Hearn’s stable now and it is unsurprising that he is now looking to sign the Ukrainian champion.

Naturally when a cruiserweight fighter secures a lofty accolade, the speculation about a move to heavyweight begins. However, these rumours are not baseless. Usyk is eyeing a step up in weight to chase the big fish and Hearn is eager to make that happen.

Hearn forsees three huge names for the newly crowned champion on his proposed contract. The first would be a cruiserweight title defence against Bellew, before stepping up in weight to face Dillian Whyte. The ultimate destination, a stadium fight with heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua.

Wladimir Klitschko allegedly brought Usyk into his camp for sparring ahead of the Joshua fight. Klitschko apparently lost his temper and refused to spar Usyk anymore as the Ukrainian was getting the better of Wladimir.

If the Klitschko altercation is anything to go off, Usyk could make big waves in the heavyweight ranks. If he is successful in his move up, he would enter into a very exclusive club. Cruiserweights that went on to win titles include the likes of Evander Holyfield.

Regardless of what happens next, Usyk’s performance in Moscow has propelled him into arena fight talks. Big things are coming to Oleksandr Usyk.
