Every so often, the UFC hold a massive press conference in which they announce their biggest upcoming fights. The stage is usually full of their most popular fighters and there is usually a lot of drama.

One of those pressers takes place today and the promotion look set to announce a huge return. Nate Diaz vs Dustin Poirier is on for Madison Square Garden, per Lance Pugmire.

The UFC always stack the card for their return to the combat sports hallowed ground. The return of Nate Diaz adds star power to what already looked to be a big night.

As I previously reported here, Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold will rematch on the November 3rd card. According to Pugmire of the LA Times, that fight will headline and Diaz vs Poirier will be in the co-main slot.

Nate Diaz has been on the bench since his rematch with Conor McGregor in August 2016. The younger Diaz brother was awaiting a big money rubber match against the Irishman. However, it seems the UFC have been able to lure him back into the fold.

The winner of Diaz vs Poirier will no doubt get the next shot at the lightweight championship. You can make a strong case for Diaz on a narrative basis and in terms of resumé, there is nobody more deserving than Dustin Poirier.

Poirier has consistently beat a rogue’s gallery of opponents. The one blemish on his record since a loss to Michael Johnson in 2016, is a no contest in the first Alvarez fight. His last three fights saw him finish former lightweight champions.

The UFC’s New York card looks to be huge as always. You can catch the aforementioned press conference at 8:30 PM if you are in the UK and 1:30PM if you are in LA.
