As I reported in July, the IBF named Hughie Fury as Kubrat Pulev’s opponent in a forthcoming title eliminator. Pulev revealed to Reuters on Thursday that he has accepted the bout as well the date and location.
The heavyweight title eliminator will take place on October 27th in Sofia, Bulgaria. ‘The Bodysnatcher’ Dillian Whyte and ‘Big Baby’ Jarrell Miller both rejected the fight offer on the grounds that they would have to travel to Pulev’s home soil.
This bout is not a big draw but it is a pivotal cog in the internal mechanism of the heavyweight division. The winner will become mandatory challenger to Anthony Joshua’s IBF belt.
Pulev looks to return to the heavyweight title picture. He lost his shot at the heavyweight crown in 2017 when he sustained an injury and was thus replaced by Carlos Takam. Hughie Fury has vowed to unify the heavyweight division in coalition with his cousin and former champion, Tyson.
The heavyweight division has become tremendously exciting in the past two years and it shows no signs of stopping.
