Ariel Helwani is reporting that Michael Chiesa’s next bout will be in the welterweight division. Chiesa’s troubles with the 155 pound weight limit are well documented.

The Spokane native last fought at UFC 226 in July. He missed weight for the bout and went on to lose to Anthony Pettis in round two. He has since said that he thought he was going to die during the weight cut.

Based on this experience, the Sikjitsu fighter will move up to 170 pounds with a return at UFC 232 targeted. That event takes place on December 29th in Las Vegas. No word yet on who he will face, Carlos Condit’s team apparently turned down a fight offer.

It should be interesting to see Chiesa compete without the depletion of an extreme weight cut.
