Tony ‘The Bomber’ Bellew has got his wish for his retirement fight. The former WBC champion will face Oleksandr Usyk for his undisputed cruiserweight crown.

Usyk vs Bellew will emenate from Manchester Arena on November 10th. This date and location has been expected and was officially announced on Matchroom Boxing’s Instagram today.

The narrative of this fight is fascinating. Bellew has said himself that he has achieved far more in his career than anyone would expect. This is ‘one last roll of the dice’, a final chance to shock the world and become the undisputed cruiserweight champion of the world.

For Usyk, this fight will establish him with the British fans ahead of a move to heavyweight. Usyk is one of the best fighters in the world pound-for-pound but fame has eluded him until recently.

Eddie Hearn has signed Usyk to Matchroom Boxing, with an eye for matching him with one of his heavyweights after this fight. The eventual plan is for Usyk to challenge Anthony Joshua for the heavyweight title.

This fight almost did not come together in the eleventh hour. The WBA had ordered Denis Lebedev as mandatory challenger to their title earlier this month. Fortunately the WBA seem to have stepped aside to allow the fight to happen.

This bout clearly means a lot to British fans, myself included. The build-up and event itself will be thrilling, make sure you watch this one with company!
