As reported here yesterday, a lightweight title unification is set for December. WBO champion, Jose Pedraza, will face WBA titlist, Vasyl Lomachenko.
Per a report from BoxingScene, Lomachenko wants to face Mikey Garcia immediately after Pedraza. Mikey Garcia holds the IBF and WBC belts at 135 pounds but is targeting fights at welterweight.
After defeating Robert Easter in July, Garcia called out IBF welterweight champion, Errol Spence. He has also talked about facing Manny Pacquiao in December but it seems Pacquiao may rematch Mayweather. A bout against Spence would see Garcia attempt to become a five weight champion.
However, Bob Arum of Top Rank seems to think Garcia is next for Lomachenko. “Lomachenko is fighting Pedraza in December. And if he wins, I promise you I’ll sit down with Mikey right after that fight and try to make a fight with Loma”.
If the winner of Lomachenko-Pedraza faces Garcia, we would be seeing an undisputed title clash. Garcia, Lomachenko and Pedraza have all held titles in multiple divisions. Whoever emerges victorious when this situation plays out would undoubtedly be pound-for-pound number one.
