Acclaimed director Danny Boyle recently exited Bond 25 due to a dispute with Daniel Craig. The two differed on who should play the movie’s villain. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer have announced his replacement to be Cary Joji Fukunaga.

This may seem like an unconventional choice. However, we have seen franchise execs throw a curveball with their director choices before and it has paid-off.

For example, Alfonso Cuarón was a bold choice to direct ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’. Cuarón was known for directing with an art house style but the result was a unqiue take on that world. It is considered one of the best films of the series.

Fukunaga directed the upcoming Netflix mini-series, ‘Maniac’. He also helmed episodes of ‘True Detective’ and an adaptation of ‘Jane Eyre’ in 2011. We at least know that Fukunaga can direct sweeping visuals.

Bond 25 is set for release on February 14th 2020.
