One of the biggest bouts in UFC history takes place on Saturday night. Khabib Nurmagomedov defends his lightweight championship against Conor McGregor in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, Georges St-Pierre is cutting weight and eyeing Conor for a potential superfight. However, McGregor seems to be more interested in a fighter often associated with GSP, Anderson Silva.

The former middleweight champion has mentioned McGregor’s name in the past, like everyone. It seemed highly unlikely, until recently.

Ahead of the UFC 229 headliner, McGregor appeared on the latest edition of The Helwani Show.

In the interview, McGregor expressed an interest in facing Silva in the future. ‘The Spider’ has since contacted Helwani with a message to Conor and Dana White. “That’s a dream come true, that would be an amazing fight”.

This is a smart move by McGregor. St-Pierre has the more legitimate claim to GOAT status but Silva is more well known. The casual fans are more likely to be aware of Silva, making the bout a bigger draw.

Many question this match-up based on size. Silva was the 185 pound titlist and went undefeated at 205 before a late notice bout with Cormier at UFC 200. Silva proposed a catchweight of 180.

McGregor seemed undersized even for welterweight. Can he even get up to 180 pounds? Silva then urged UFC president Dana White to book the fight: “C’mon Dana. Uncle Dana. Let’s do this”.

Is there a desire to see this amongst the fanbase though? It could be a flashy stand up display but is Silva over the hill? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section.
