An undisputed champion is set to face a big name in his heavyweight debut.
Per sources, undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk is set to face Carlos Takam when he makes his anticipated move up in weight.
It is believed that Usyk and Takam will clash in Chicago on May 18. The heavyweight bout will stream on the DAZN platform.
The bout is part of a multi-fight agreement between Oleksandr Usyk and the DAZN/Matchroom outfit signed in September 2018.
Eddie Hearn signed the undisputed cruiserweight champion prior to his defence against Tony Bellew. The Matchroom boss has a master plan for Usyk: fight the likes of Povetkin, Whyte and Takam in his move to heavyweight before challenging Anthony Joshua.
The Ukrainian is a habitual winner he clinched an Olympic gold medal in the amateurs before his current undefeated pro run of 16 wins. In 2018, he made history, defeating Murat Gassiev on the way to collecting all four cruiserweight belts.
Carlos Takam put on a brave performance against Anthony Joshua in 2017, fight which saw him have his moments. Takam has shared a ring with some of the best fighters the heavyweight division has to offer, with a record of 36 wins, five losses and one draw.
Usyk has been bulking up to heavyweight and recently released a training photo with former heavyweight champion, Wladimir Klitschko. Carlos Takam picked-up a stoppage of Senad Gashi in his last outing.
Prior to news of Usyk/Takam, rumours were circulating that Usyk would face a tough assignment in his first fight at heavyweight, Alexander Povetkin. Although Takam does not have the same ranking as the Russian boxer, this rumoured bout is very exciting.
