This past weekend saw amateur boxing prospects fight it out in the England Boxing National Junior Championships.
One of the stand-outs was Prince Dubois, brother of pro star Daniel and talented amateur Caroline. Prince Dubois picked up a national title for the prestigious Repton Boxing Club, he out-pointed Henry Rowbotham by unanimous decision.
Oliver Rolfe, also of Repton picked up a unanimous decision in the 75kg category against AJ Fuller.
Pinewood Starr ABC saw great success at the tournament with Miley Cash and Blu Bowers picking up wins respectively.
A representative of the gym said on Twitter: “So proud of Blu Bowers, the kid never lets you down he’s the biggest characters in the gym and to win his 6th national title has made us all so proud.”
James Fernley of Lansbury became the first boxer of his gym to lift a national title.
Moss Side Fire Station Boxing Club, a gym in Manchester that hopes to keep young people off the streets, were victorious in the under 63kg category. Matt Knipe edged Sonny Flack.
Shelby-Marie Lee announced herself as a rising star in amateur boxing by defeating European Junior Champion Alex Brown. In doing so, she captured a national title and earned her place on the England squad.
Lee said: “I think that’s the best I have boxed so far and I’m looking forward now to going to some Box Cups and boxing with England, as well as The Three Nations.”
