Two British fan favourites are set for a domestic bust-up in the super-welterweight division come September.
In an interview with IFL TV, Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn has revealed that Scott Fitzgerald vs Ted Cheesman is under negotiations for September.
And both fighters have expressed interest in the fight, most recently Fitzgerald on Talk Sport’s Fight Night show.
Londoner Ted Cheesman has a big fan following in the south and Scott Fitzgerald of Preston, increased his already considerable fan following with a win over Anthony Fowler in March.
That bout secured Fitzgerald a WBA international super welterweight title in his first pro title challenge.
Cheesman has won international and British championships in his career.
Fitzgerald, Fowler and Cheesman are close rivals, having exchanged plenty of trash talk between them.
However, with Fowler vs Fitzgerald cleared-up and the Prestonian set to take on on Cheesman, we could soon see a major light welterweight contender emerge.
But first, Cheesman returns to action on June 21st. The event is a NXTGEN card, a JD Sports backed event that showcases the rising stars of the sport.
Also, Scott Fitzgerald will face Brian Rose on a Manchester card on July 6th.
