Matchroom Boxing have announced that another of Britain’s world champions will defend his crown on the undercard of Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Jr.

It was announced yesterday that Callum Smith will defend the WBA super middleight world title and WBC Diamond belt against Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam.

The globetrotting champion last fought George Groves in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, winning the world title, it was the final of the World Boxing Super Series.

Smith will now join a blockbuster card at Madison Square Garden, boxing’s hallowed ground, on June 1.

At 25-0, Smith is believed to be one of the best in the sport pound-for-pound. He has been named as a potential opponent for The Ring Magazine’s number 3 ranked Canelo Alvarez, should he return to super middle.

We could also see a huge title unification between two domestic names as Billy Joe Saunders won the WBO super middleweight title this past weekend.

For now though he will look to make a statement in front of the American fans. As well as Joshua defending the unified heavyweight title in the headliner, the card sees Katie Taylor attempting to become the second female undisputed world champion in history.

In addition, Hull’s Tommy Coyle contests the WBO International Super Lightweight belt with Chris Aligeri and thrilling prospect Josh Kelly faces Ray Robinson for the WBA International Lightweight title.
