Training camp is well underway for the next Clash of the Titans fight show.
Originally scheduled for a ‘Brawl in the Hall’ event, July 27 will now see the latest boxing show from the Fight Kings FC promotion and Just Grind MMA & Fitness Centre.
Clash of the Titans 24 will see boxers of Just Grind take on opposition from other gyms at Whitehaven’s Solway Hall, before returning to their mainstay venue, The Carnegie Theatre in Workington later in the year.
In a grueling session in the gym at St John’s Court on Thursday; Mark Hodgson put the boxers through their paces. Hodgson first established the gym under a different banner: Hokushinko Fight Academy.
In a sparring heavy session, fighters developed their awareness under fire and fight cardio. Intense and competitive rounds were completed with newly taught techniques implemented whilst in free flow.
Two of the fighters taking part have just had opponents confirmed for the card respectively. David Mullins will take on Andrew Mitchell over 3X2 minute rounds.
Mitchell is a game and tough fighter with experience in hard-fought contests; having previously battled to a draw with Just Grind’s Adam Matthews.
Mullins is well-versed in the movement and principles of combat sports, training in multiple forms of martial arts for years. This bout could be a fun one.
And in another exciting contest, Poland’s Bartek Kanaby will bring his tenacity, granite jaw and propensity for violence.
Kanaby faces Martin Smith, a slick operator who will look to negate his forward pressure with clever boxing.
Kanaby’s last bout was an exhibition under K1 rules with his close friend Szymon Smorongiewicz.
That fight came together due to the pay-per-view spars that the two have during Just Grind’s kickboxing lessons. Coaches often have to tell them to tone it down so they decided to take the shackles off and it was a thriller at the Carnegie Theater on March 30.
And Smith vs Kanaby could be another fight of the night contender.
