MATCHMAKERS at the UFC are set to book Ben Askren in an all-grappling affair against Demian Maia.
Former ONE Championship middleweight titlist, Askren could face BJJ expert, Demian Maia once his medical suspension is up in September.
Askren’s medical suspension was handed down by the Nevada State Athletic Commission; after Jorge Masvidal KO’d Askren in 5 seconds with a flying knee at UFC 239.
Maia vs Askren could be a fascinating bout with high level grappling on display. Askren is a four time all-American wrestler, who transitioned to MMA seamlessly. He holds victories over some of the sports biggest names including; Douglas Lima, Shinya Aoki, Andrey Koreshkov and Jay Hieron.
Maia is currently on the climb back after back to back losses to world class opposition. However, his BJJ makes the takedown and rear-naked-choke a constant threat.
Maia has submitted nine opponents with the sequence including ‘The Immortal’ Matt Brown, Carlos Condit and Neil Magny.
All-American wrestling vs Brazilian jiu-jitsu, this one could be a grappling masterclass.
