DEBATE over which country should provide the setting for Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Junior have seen many suggest that it should be neutral ground. And it looks as though that may be reality.

Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn is reportedly appealing for the world title fight to take place in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. The date is penciled in for December 7/14th.

We have seen British boxing represented in Saudi before as Jeddah was the site of the World Boxing Super Series super middleweight final – Callum Smith stopped George Groves to capture the WBA super middleweight and Ring Magazine belts.

Team Ruiz, as the new A-side after his shock upset victory, have appealed for the rematch to be staged in Tijuana. On the other side, Joshua is campaigning for Cardiff, or his spiritual home, the O2 in London.

The Athletic Boxing reports that Saudi is now the frontrunner, with Cardiff a close second.

More on the world heavyweight title rematch as the situation unfolds.
