GANGSTERS from the east and west coast are set to collide at UFC 244 as Nate Diaz vs Jorge Masvidal is in the works.
ESPN’s Ariel Helwani is reporting, via multiple sources that the welterweight tilt is in the works. Diaz vs Masvidal is reportedly the planned headliner for UFC 244 which takes place on November 2 in the combat sports hallowed ground, Madison Square Garden.
Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz are major fan favorites in the UFC for their thrilling bouts and exciting fighting styles.
Masvidal is coming off of two knockout wins against top 170 pound fighters, Darren Till and Ben Askren. The latter was a flying knee five seconds into the first stanza.
At 34-13, Masvidal has shared the octagon with some of MMA’s biggest names including; Donald Cerrone, Demian Maia; Paul Daley and Stephen Thompson.
Diaz comprehensively out-pointed Anthony Pettis at UFC 241 on August 17, it was his first fight back after a stay of absence following his controversial decision loss to Conor McGregor. Diaz’s star became much brighter when he stopped McGregor in their first meeting at UFC 196.
Diaz called out Masvidal in his post-fight interview at UFC 241 and the welterweight contender responded on Twitter yesterday:
Masvidal previously revealed that talks were underway with Kamaru Usman in an exchange with the welterweight world champion on Twitter:
The welterweight champion has also been in talks for an anticipated grudge match against Colby Covington. However, negotiations are said to have stalled for Usman’s first title defense.
170 pounds appears to be wide open, with a number of exciting match-ups to make. However, for now the UFC appear to be working on a huge crowd-pleaser in Diaz/Masvidal.
Fights already confirmed for UFC 244 include Darren Till’s move up to middleweight against Kelvin Gastelum, up and coming star Johnny Walker faces Corey Anderson and Blagoy Ivanov takes on Derrick Lewis.
