MMA PROMOTIONS; UFC, Strikeforce, WEC and PRIDE are set to clash in a stacked grappling card with legends and veterans already picked for the event.
Four teams of five will clash at the Quintet Ultra tournament on UFC Fight Pass, taking place live on Thursday December 12.
In the event’s superfight, submission specialist MMA fighter Aleksei Oleinik faces off with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu whiz Gordon Ryan.
And two members from each team have been announced for the inter-promotional clash.
Winner stays on and the ruleset is of traditional submission grappling.
On the UFC team, rising prospect Sean O’Malley joins Anthony Johnson. Former light heavyweight Johnson is set to return to MMA from retirement next year in the heavyweight division.
Two legends of the fight game have been announced for the PRIDE team, UFC Hall of Fame inductee Kazushi Sakuraba and Takanori Gomi.
Gilbert Melendez and teammate Jake Shields will head-up the Strikeforce side.
Despite facing Diego Sanchez in one of the most exciting battles in UFC history, Melendez has recenly been let go from the promotion.
In an interview with ESPN he said: “I am ready to move on. I feel like if I were to fight again I would want to do it on my terms and steer my own ship.”
The charge will be led for the WEC by Chad ‘Money’ Mendes, a pioneer of modern MMA at the lighter weights as well as heavyweight gatekeeper Glover Teixeira.
More fighters and martial artists will be revealed for the teams in the coming weeks.
