A HEAVYWEIGHT CLASH is predicted between Australian Joseph Parker and Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk.

A pivotal fight is expected between former world heavyweight champion Joseph Parker and top contender Oleksandr Usyk who was crowned undisputed cruiserweight champion before moving up in weight.

Usyk is the mandatory challenger for WBO heavyweight title held by unified world champion Anthony Joshua. Kubrat Pulev is also the mandatory challenger for Joshua’s IBF belt, meaning that he may have to vacate a title.

Team AJ is hard at work to fight one mandatory without losing the other belt.

And it is worth noting that these exemption requests are relatively easy to gain.

But with former WBO champion Parker at number 2 in the rankings, he could be in line to fight for that vacant belt should Joshua relinquish it.

The opponent he could face for the vacant strap, is switch-hitter Oleksandr Usyk.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Parker’s manager David Higgins said: “There’s talk that Joshua might have to vacate one of the sanctioning bodies.” (One of their belts)

“If he vacates the WBO, then suddenly you’ve got Usyk mandatory and I think the next available ranked boxer is Joseph Parker.”

What would Parker vs Usyk look like and how does the former cruiserweight king fair against the top heavyweights?

Higgins said: “Usyk is a very tough fight. He’s a southpaw, he would dissect Anthony Joshua.

“Joseph being old school will not take a backward step, so if that does happen Joseph will be straight in and he’ll fight Usyk.”

There are some great fights lined-up for 2020 and beyond.
