UFC boss Dana White has revealed that Jorge Masvidal will face welterweight world champion Kamaru Usman next.

Dana White revealed on the Jim Rome show yesterday that 170 pound world champion Usman will next defend his belt in July at UFC 252 on International Fight Week.

White said: “Him and Usman will fight in Vegas, probably International Fight Week. And then if he wins, maybe we’ll do his first title defence in Miami.”

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Kamaru Usman ripped through strong competition like Rafael dos Anjos, Leon Edwards and Demian Maia on route to his title shot against Woodley in March 2019.

And he stunned the UFC fandom by dominating Woodley over 5 rounds to win the world title. He successfully defended against Colby Covington in December, a grudge match that lived up to the hype.

Usman and his next opponent had to be pulled apart recently as they got into a war of words at the Super Bowl radio row.

Having toiled at mid card level for a long time, Masvidal’s career saw a revival in 2019, or a resurrection as he calls it.

He stopped Darren Till in March before a spectacular flying knee knock-out of Ben Askren, seconds into the first round. His fame increased with a victory over Nate Diaz that November, earning him the BMF (Baddest Motherf**ker) belt.

Although some purist MMA fans think the BMF belt is a tacky trinket, the UFC will understandably market this match-up as champion vs champion.

Everybody wins either way as this is a great match-up where two of the best fighters on the roster will clash.
