CHAMPION of the 155 pounders, Khabib Nurmagomedov has squashed rumours that his title defense against Tony Ferguson will go ahead.

The Coronavirus outbreak threw the UFC lightweight world title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson into doubt once again.

The two have been scheduled to fight for a number of times now, but injuries and weight cutting issues have always caused the fight to fall out.

The dream lightweight title fight between two of the best fighters in the world looked set to go ahead at UFC 249 on April 18.

The COVID-19 outbreak naturally cast doubt on this but the Mac Life today reported that private flights would be permitted out of Russia. This would mean Khabib could potentially still compete. However, the world champion has since squashed the rumours.

In a post to social media he said: “I understand everything and I’m definitely upset more than you to cancel the fight, probably like all others I had many plans for after the fight but I can’t control it all.”
